The founder of Mangaluru’s most popular ice cream brand, Shibaroor Prabhakar Kamath, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, November 6.Prabhakar Kamath, the founder of Ideal Ice Cream, took his last breath around 3.30 in the morning.
Kamath was injured in an accident in Bejai on October 29 and is currently receiving treatment in a private hospital in the city.
Kamath is affectionately referred to as “Pabba Maam”, and he started dealing in general goods in the 1970s. He used to sell biscuits produced in Shivakashi during Deepavali.
Due to business fluctuations, he wanted to try something that he needed throughout the year, so he decided to open an ice cream shop. He taught himself the art of making ice cream, experimented at home, and criticized neighbors.
On May 1, 1975, he opened Ideal’s Parlor with 14 flavors on Market Road. In the next few decades, Ideal brand ice cream continued to win reputation and recognition and became the best tourist attraction in Mangluru.
