Ramadan this year is going to be warm and tiresome so if you’re not arranged, get ready to bear. We’ve put simultaneously some tips for you to pursue so you can fast without any problem or well-being issues.
1. Always break your fast with a cup of water/ juice and
dates. Eating dates will boost your blood sugar level and take away that
painful headache you’ve been walking around with all day. If you suffer
from diabetes, please consult with your doctor first.
2. Cut down
on your nasty habits a month before. Try to avoid that extra cup of
coffee, that last cigarette in the box, or ha 2 pm snack you’re just
used to. When giving your body a “heads up”, fasting will become easier
especially for those with addictions like smoking.
3. Have three
meals and not two. Have your sohoor, iftar, and dinner. By introducing a
light dinner to your regime, it will keep your metabolism working
around the clock and will help your body cope better with fasting.
4.
Avoid sweets. As hard as that maybe, oriental sweets and desserts are
high on sugar which will only leave you thirsty in the morning.
5.
Pack on fibers. We’re talking fave beans, bran, whole grain bread,
brown rice, fruits, and vegetables. Foods rich in fiber will leave you
feeling fuller for longer and will neutralize the acidity in your
stomach caused by fasting. Yogurt and sour milk are also good for that.
6. Drink a lot of water to avoid DE-hydration during the day. 8-12 cups are preferred to keep you hydrated.
7.
Eat slowly and chew slowly. Eating too fast in front of the television
just because you haven’t eaten all day will leave you feeling bloated,
uncomfortable, dizzy, and fat.
8. Keep your meals light. Avoid fried foods and eat grilled. Remove visible fats off meat and chicken before cooking.
9.
Take a walk. Taking a walk an hour or two after your meal will help you
digest your food faster. Make it a staple to walk about 2kms everyday
during Ramadan and notice the difference by the end of the month.
10. Don't over eat. Don't eat like it’s your last meal ever. Remember, your next meal is only a few hours away.
