remembered for lifelong devotion towards their partners. Like how exceptions
are found everywhere, the most vibrant and animated example of it being the
fine love story of the evergreen couple, Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu- a love
story, which triumphed an age difference of 22 years and is still going strong.
A Real Love Story
It was just like a fairy-tale romance for the King of Tragedy Dilip Kumar aka Yusuf Khan and Bollywood Diva and beauty Queen Saira Banu. In fact, as the former actress herself reminisces and confesses that she was all in awe and reverence for Dilip Kumar right from the age of 12. When the first premier of Dilip Kumar’s super hit tragic tale of romance Mughal-e-Azam was showcased at Mumbai’s famous Maratha Mandir movie hall in 1960, Saira Banu, then only 16 had gone for the show, being a die-hard fan of the veteran actor who was at the prime of his career at that time. She had dreams of grabbing a glimpse of her hero in person, but her desires were smashed to smithereens, as Dilip Kumar was unable to come to the premier.

Later, it was this same Naseem Banu, who with all her domineering aura took advantage of her daughter’s ardour and veneration for Dilip Kumar and indulged in a conversation with him to tactfully offer him her daughter’s hand. Dilip Kumar agreed and of course Saira Banu had no qualms either getting married to the man of her dreams. They got married in the year 1966, when the gorgeous Saira was only 22 and Dilip Kumar 45.

Celebrities are not without controversies and their love story was no
exception. While the young Saira had witnessed a fling with Rajendra Kumar
prior to her marriage, Dilip Kumar got entangled in a controversial love affair
with Asma, a Pakistani lady in the 1980’s. Yet amidst all the ebb and flow of
life, they have stood beside each other like a rock, considering one another to
be the greatest gift of God.
For the actress there is never a day passed when she does not thank Allah
for giving him a Kohinoor in the form of her husband Dilip Kumar.
