Not all abuse leaves physical scars, and that is a reality that Jennifer Lopez explored in a new book.
The actress and singer wrote a book about a period of self-discovery that occurred while conducting their first world tour in 2012. Although he tried that the project "was a book fan, a journal of the years when I was on tour," which resulted was a book that helped the star to "face a lot," as he told People magazine.
One of the things you face in your book are her experiences in past relationships.
"I never had a black eye or a fat lip, but I was abused in some way mentally, emotionally and verbally, "Lopez writes in the book, entitled True Love.
People magazine says the singer of 45 years does not name his abuser, nor does he say that was physically abused.
Lopez adds that intentionally does not disclose details.
"I would never say anything specific about my relationships, and I do not. But the idea was that I learned something," he says.
Lopez has been married three times, his most recent marriage with singer Marc Anthony, ended in 2011 after seven years. When you look at your past relationships, says he learned to "take care and know my worth."
"When things do not work and they treat you in a way you want to be treated, you have to look at that because it is not the fault of anyone but you," Lopez tells People.
"You have to take control and you have to set your own limits. You have the power to change it."
