Duration of the menstrual cycle in women is approximately 28 days (21 to 35 days). Short monthly cycle (proyomenoreya) implies frequent onset of menstruation, every 12-14 days.

The causes of short menstrual cycle:
  1. Disturbances in the endocrine system;
  2. Diseases of the heart and blood vessels;
  3. Metabolic disorder;
  4. Kidney or liver disease;
  5. Infection;
  6. A bleeding disorder;
  7. Lack of vitamins;
  8. Inflammatory processes in the female reproductive system;
  9. Improper positioning of the uterus;
  10. Stress or fatigue;
  11. A sharp change in climatic conditions;
  12. Diseases of the uterus;
  13. Cysts or ovarian cancer;
  14. Various injuries;
  15. Misuse of coffee, alcohol or cigarettes;
  16. Unhealthy diet;
  17. Dramatic weight loss;
  18. Using a spiral inside the uterus;
  19. Receiving oral contraceptives.

In that case, if a woman has a short cycle menstruation due to reduction of the first stage of the cycle (proliferation) resulting from birth or abortion ovulation in this case is possible on day 7 or 8. All indicators of the level of hormones and basal body temperature are normal, only slightly offset in time. These women are able to become pregnant and they do not need to appoint a special hormones.

If a woman has reduced the second stage (luteal) of the menstrual cycle, then it may be a normal first stage, the occurrence of ovulation and premature resorption of the corpus luteum. In this case, a woman can not get pregnant and she should be treated with hormonal agents.
